Strengthening UMC’s SRS/SBRT Program with OriginQS

UMC Health System is a high-volume cancer center with advanced technology, including three TrueBeam linear accelerators. The center aimed to expand its stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) capabilities for complex cancer treatments.

Problem

Increased demand for hypo-fractionated treatments challenged UMC’s capacity for timely, high-quality SRS/SBRT planning, especially for intricate cases like brain metastases and liver tumors.

Solutions

  • Commissioned ICVI cones and 6X FFF beam with Eclipse SRS planning.
  • Integrated AI tools to streamline and accelerate planning.
  • Supported 61 stereotactic plans in 2024 (16% of total).
  • Ensured strict protocol adherence across intracranial and extracranial cases.

Key Results and Impact

  • Faster turnaround with AI-enhanced planning.
  • Delivered 61 SRS/SBRT plans, including for trigeminal neuralgia and metastatic cases.
  • Treated 48 SRS/SBRT patients in 2024.
  • Reinforced UMC’s position as a regional leader in precision radiation therapy.

Services Provided

  • SRS/SBRT planning for intracranial and extracranial conditions
  • AI-based treatment plan optimization
  • Equipment commissioning (TrueBeam STx, ICVI cones)
  • Clinical support for complex treatment protocols
